Notes Of John Usry, Rolla, Mo.--"Twin brother to Andrew Jackson Ussery. Martin was known as "Black Mart" because he had black hair. They had twelve children, of which Joseph M. was first. He is buried in Wright Co., MO, but there's no date of death on his tombstone."
"He was born March 20, 1844, Green Co., MO. He married about 1862 to Sarah A. Morrison, born in Illinois. Sarah was a sister to Becky Morrison who married Frank Ussery, a brother to Martin V.B. Ussery. According to official Missouri records, MVB Ussery was in Company D, 7 Prov, En. Missouri Militia; enrolled April 1, 1863, and Mt. Vernon MO; relieved Eb. 29, 1864' 335 day of service. He bought 43 Acres of land in Dallas Co., MO in 1868, from his father Peter Ussery. He appears in the 1850 census for Dallas Co., MO; have not located him in the 1870 census; and he shows in the 1880 census in Wood, Township of Wright Co., MO." In 1880 and 1900 Census, Wood Township, Mo.

Application for Invalid Pension, 4 March 1903: MARTIN V. USSERY, aged 59, of Hawly, Wright Co., Missouri, enrolled at Buffalo, Dallas Co., Missouri.
" I was born a Green Co., Missouri, March 20, 1844. Enlisted 1862 and 1863 at Buffalo. Residence has been in Dallas County until 1869, and is Wright County ever since. My height is 5'11', 145 pounds."
Application filed March 9, 1903, Hawley PO Wright Co., MO. Elisted April 1, 1864 discharged Feb 29, 186 (illegible)
Declaration for increase of pension:21 May 1904, appeared Martin V. Ussery, aged 60, late a member of Company D. 7th Regiment Prov. Enr. Missouri Millitia, a resident of Hawley, Wright Co., Missouri; enrolled a Topeka, Kansas pension agency a $6 per month. Born 20 March 1844. Martin V. Ussery, pension issued Oct. 17, 1904: rate $10 from Sept. 7, 1904.
